Göteborgs Konstmuseum

I also visited Göteborgs Konstmuseum, this Gothenburg’s main art gallery with classical right through to contemporary pieces. One particular piece caught my attention; ‘Candle Flames Modulated by Soundwaves’ by Lars Siltberg was a video piece of a candle burning that at first glance seemed quite ineffective and passive. Then when I studied it more closely it had an interactive element attached, the candle’s flame is directly affected by the surrounding vibrations from electronic soundwaves, creating a form graph showing the frequency and intensity of soundwaves in the environment that ordinarily you wouldn’t notice. This was a quiet piece situated amongst classical art pieces and once you realised the process at work held great resonance in the space, creating a really interesting interplay between image and sound.
